Reviews
Fantastic location and the rooms are nicely renovated, clean and meet the usual Premier Inn standard we're used to.
Parking is easy, in the multi story right behind the hotel and they have a voucher system for a discounted £8 for 24 hours which in the centre of Durham is very fair.
Breakfast was great as always, although no decaff tea or gluten free bread, both of which are on the menu and have been available at other Premier Inns.
Staff all seem friendly and welcoming.
Would recommend they put a small seat next to the door in the rooms to sit and put shoes on, just something small missing from the latest room designs.
Free Internet could be faster, but at least its free. Paid option available if it mattered.
Hand towel hanger also needed in bathrooms. Not sure who designed them not to have one, bit of a gap there.
Recently renovated comfy twin room (I was on the sofa bed, but still comfy) however we were on the ground floor on the front street, with passers by/students frequently walking past, so we couldn't have the curtains open. Plus the fan in the bathroom was constantly on, (annoying during the night!), which I mentioned on checkout. Only one towel, but ok as only staying one night!Friendly staff.
What a fantastic hotel. This is the best premier inn we have stayed at. This is our third visit, we usually book a premium room but we missed out this time. However we were given a newly refurbished room, wow, what a great job they have done. We are totally impressed, it still has the new carpet smell. This is a massive difference from the premier inn quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne that we travelled from today( that was horrendous and should be avoided at all cost).
Staff very helpful in particular Alison. I was attending my nephews wedding, unfortunately he was given 3 lots of different information about early check-in. I contacted the reservations team and explained the situation, that this sort of error should not happen for such an important occasion. They apologise and proceed to help the best way they could. I was put through to Alison who sorted a room out at short notice AND had the room simply decorated for the newly weds. This is truly fantastic customer service definitely going above and beyond the norm and recognition should be given!
So thank you for making the experience memorable for the right reasons Alison!
Me and my partner stayed here for a couple nights to celebrate his birthday.
I was early for check in (10 mins) and was told to ‘take a seat’ by quite a rude staff member - a blonde, older lady.
We chose to stay in a premier plus room on floor 4 which was very cosy and quiet.
We had a problem with our air con/ heating not working which was partially solved on night one as we were given a fan. The next evening the engineer came and fixed the problem.
The restaurant was nice but took quite a while for the food to come as there were only 2 members taking orders and serving food while the restaurant was quite busy.
Location of the hotel is ideal and about a 5 min walk into Durham centre.
Very clean and reasonably priced. Staff were polite. Only downsides are the parking is in a multistorey next door, but that's what you get for city centre location I guess. Also no iron or ironing board in rooms, which I always find weird.
The rooms had been renovated just a week before our stay and were the nicest Premier Inn rooms we'd ever stayed in. Really comfy bed, really nice shower cubicle instead of a bath (I've never bathed in a Premier Inn so it makes much more sense to have a nice shower!) and really clean. Location is perfect for Durham centre too. Parking was at an NCP next door with "a discount" (parking is £8 for 24 hours with the discount voucher - £9.50 without it so it's great to get it reduced but still cheaper than usual Premier Inn parking either way). Only down side was when we went (August 2023) it was still being renovated and we were woken at 7.55am by drilling, banging, workmen yelling and singing etc. so although we'd slept well to that point, it wasn't a great way to wake up! That said, we had 2 rooms at different ends and only 1 was affected by the noise. Once the renovations are done it will be perfect though.
Great location, staff very welcoming & friendly. Breakfast was great, all except sausage. Like sawdust & very pappy.
